Feeding sharks

Are you saying that if you were there(Beqa Lagoon, Fiji) for the week, you would have passed on the shark dive???..If so, you would have been 1 outta the ~40(divers) staying @ the resort.......Guess 98% of the guest(divers) there that week don't think like you.....

No, I wouldn't have done the shark dive. Yes, I would have been 1 out of 40. Since I wouldn't be booked at a resort that does "feed the shark" dives (I've done so before and passed on the shark feeding dive), it's a decision I wouldn't have to make anyway.

What shark dive(destinations) have you opted 'out' on before??...........And, you might want to read this for maybe a better understanding of their thinking--?....

I went on a "shark feeding" dive in the Bahamas last year. As others have said, it's very contrived. As soon as the divers get in the water, there are several dozen sharks circling, knowing what's coming next. This dive site had a huge grouper that was more aggressive than the sharks. There are tons of videos of it on YouTube if you want to see what it's about.

It was a thrill being so close to so many large sharks, and I enjoyed it, although one time is enough for me. As someone also said, it's definitely an opportunity for the charter operator to sell you T-shirts, videos and photos of yourself surrounded by sharks.

Realistic shark encounter? Definitely not. Worth the bottom time? I'd say so, but not as exciting as when you're swimming along on a reef and see a real shark swim by.

Agreed...

This would be my choice... - technically it's sort of both. Cristina was elected to the Women Diver Hall of Fame based partly on her shark research. And Joe is a staff member at the Shark Research Institute. (I will never get tired of reposting this..)

Much like DiverSteve, I too will never get tired of tooting Cristina's horn. She's an Educator, Conservationist, an amazing Diver and Instructor, and at the end of the day a Great Human Being. Just sayin'
