I got lots of good info here before our trip, so I'm reporting back.
We went with two different outfits. First was Puerto Vallarta Adventures (I think). It was through the Four Seasons. The DM was a bit confusing-- he signaled to go up to the surface at the end, then freaked b/c we didn't weren't doing a safety stop. Not sure why he didn't signal that. And our surface interval was way too short. They seem to be more of a cattle provider.
We had WONDERFUL experiences with Punta Mita Expeditions. The staff were very knowledgeable, took adequate safety precautions, and really seem to care about the underwater world. Our DM stopped a few times to retrieve illegal fishing lures, and even worked with my husband to set free a fish that had been hooked and had it's line cut.
The small group size was great. One day 4 of us, another day just the 2 of us!!
