Diversteve, you are correct, I forgot about the Silver Banks excursions offered by the T&C Explorer and Aggressor at that time of year. Thanks for the correction!

We had perfect weather when we were on the Cayman Aggressor and spent most of the week off Little Cayman and diving BBW and Jackson. We also did some great dives off of Brac and GC. We were there during the fall and it was a fabulous trip. But the weather was bad the following week and they never made the crossing to the sister islands.

Of course, weather is always a concern - whether you are diving land-based or liveaboard - and although I have loved our many liveaboard trips I can't think of a worse place to be in bad weather than on a boat! At least when you are on land you usually have other entertainment options. But if you want to do a lot of easy, great. pristine diving - then a week of good weather on a liveaboard can be a wonderful experience!

Can't thank you guys enough! I'm going to talk to the wife tonight but I'm thinking Roatan in Feb and then try to schedule the liveaboard (either T&C or Caymans) in late summer when the weather's better...barring huricanes (we dodged 3 of those suckers on our Hawaii trip in August/Sept).

Thank's to Scubaboard every single day of our vacation time is spent on dive vacations! Wish I had discovered this younger!

Good luck to you! Of those 2 destination (T&C and Caymans) I recommend T&C for the liveaboard trip. The Turks and Caicos diving is great and you will see sharks on just about every dive - but it is best from a liveaboard IMO. You will be able to do a lot of dives off of West Caicos and French Cay and those are the best locations. When you do a land-based trip from Provo, you will either dive the nearer sites which are not as good - or you will have very long boat rides just to do a 2-tank dive. We've done 2 T&C liveaboard trips and loved them.

The Cayman Aggressor trip was great and we got to do a lot of excellent dives but most of the sites were easily available from land-based operations, and as Diversteve reminded us, the Aggressor will not make the crossing from GC to LC when the weather doesn't cooperate.

I've enjoyed doing both land-based and liveaboard diving in the Caymans, but if I had to select just one Caribbean liveaboard destination then I would pick the Turks and Caicos.

Update. We had to change our plans since (i guess due to the 2 for 1 deal) AKR was booked out to June. We ended up booking a trip to Curacao, leaving March 10. We'll try Roatan or Turks live aboard later in the year if possible. We might end up going on a trip with our local dive club instead. I'll post some pics when we get back.

diversteve briefly mentioned it, for future consideration, think about the East end of Grand Cayman. I'm particularly fond of Compass Point/Ocean Frontiers
