Buckaroo Banzai?? Wow I haven't seen that in ages. I'm surprised you didn't add the Ice Pirates to you list.

Not familiar with Ice Pirates.

Buckaroo Banzai is like black licorice for most people. Either you love it or hate it.

Absence of Malice is a very good film, too. I'm enjoying being reminded of some very good movies here!

After seeing my initial list, I've realized how many I should have listed.

I need to add
City of God
Memento
M (Peter Lorre pre hollywood)
Life is Beautiful
Chinatown
LA Confidential
Strange Brew

Ya, so many that can be added.

Hollywood Confidential
Chinatown
Shawshank Redemption

All Excellent movies.

The Green Mile
Silence of the Lambs
Seven
Risky Business

Most anything with Steve McQueen.

We were soldiers
Bladerunner
Shawshank redemption
Silent running
Leon (directors cut)
Dune.

Leon, released in the US as The Professional. Most of the Jean Reno movies are excellent, even the Pink Panther.

"After Hours" -Scorsese.
Good movie, especially if you lived downtown before it got gentrified. It reminded me of another movie (which it bears no resemblance to): Into the Night, starring Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Pfeiffer and with a memorable cameo role by David Bowie. Definitely not on my list of best movies, but, along with the aforementioned Top Gun, one of my guilty pleasures.

Galaxy Quest.
Wallace and Grommit 1st three shorts trilogy. Or Chicken Run, take your pick.
Shawshank Redemption already mentioned, I'll add a ++.
