Honestly, most available modern gear is more than adequate (but I do not like jacket BC or back inflate BC designs due to fit).

My favorites:

Regs: Argonaut Kraken (or USD DA/RAM updated to PRAM) Double Hose
Buoyancy: DSS BP/W (I'm 6'-7", and this is the only production plate I am aware of that fts me) but the DH is on a (modified) VDH "Vintage" plate and an Argonaut Dive 18# wing.

But...

I also dive ScubaPro Mk-17/G250, Poseidon MK-2/XStream, HOG D1(cold)/Classic or Zenith, and a whole bunch of SP "vintage" stuff....Mk-2/3/5/10/15/20 firsts, 108/109/Air1/Pilot/G250 (all variants), G200B, good God, I might have others too - ??? seconds.

I have an OxyCheq "Dogbone" plate, DSS ProFit Stainless and Kydex, and DSS wings, OxyCheq wings, Deep6 Wings, HOG wings, Argonaut Dive wing......

My Wife and Daughter dive DSS/Deep6/OxyCheq/HOG/SP components.....

All worthwhile and noteworthy. I see no reason to change......

(EDIT - CRAP!, I forgot my DveRite Regs and wing too, and I just gave away my "vintage" Sherwood stuff to a friend to use as it was just sitting around....)

I have a Hollis BCD. Bought it because I wanted a back inflate BCD vs a jacket and it fit me well at the LDS. It was the previous model so was on clearance, bonus.

I have Dive Rite regs, did some research and went with them, couldn't be happier so far.

My favorite brand of doubles wing is Halcyon. My favorite brand of back-plate is Aluminum or Stainless Steel.
