I dove Farsworth bank and thought people may be interested in this. I has a WAAS GPS so this should be within 30' of the western tip of the bank.

N33 20.628'

happy diving!

Cody, what does it look like from the sky? is it just whitecaps, or is the water clear enough to see the pinnacles?

My friend, we are going to have a blast on the 10th of June when we go there again. I promise as much fun on the SI as you two will have at the pinnacle.

ohh buddy, it is going to be nice! I haven't flown over it yet, but now that i know where it is i should go have a look next time I am at the island. The day we were there it was calm and flat as could be. I could have waterskiied to the site! I would imagine on a day with a really strong swell it should creat a wave... dunno really.

The front side of the island is usually clear and you can see down quite a ways. I have also had some nice looks down on marineland when it is calm. I know one day I will look down and see mo2vation.

Darn... now you've told the world how to find my favorite dive site!

It is pretty spectacular, isn't it.

true, true... all of the fishing boats there was a pretty easy give away though...

Dr bill, while i was there i saw a few of the corals that were broke off. will these repair themselves and continue living or are they toast?

CodyP... I always see anchor damage at Farnsworth. Since there are no mooring buoys and we all want to dive it (and others fish it), this will continue to be a problem. Actually fishing boats may be more prone to anchor OFF the pinnacle itself since dive boats often need the anchor line for divers to reach the site.

The broken corals may continue to function for a while. I'm not certain if these colonies share a common digestive tract. Will have to do a little more research. If so, that could affect their long-term survival.

Although we often use the time frame of hundreds of years for the coral to grow, apparently some studies suggest they may reach 10-12" within 20-30 years.

At least we'll never see BOW students out there since it is an advanced dive. Usually when we go there are no other boats at the site we dive (the upper pinnacle).

ok then, now this raises the mooring bouy question? Why Not? What channels would need to be covered to put in a mooring bouy? are there issues with them being navigational hazards? Money? maintenance? this would probably raise the amount of people diving at these sites but it would decrease the damage. For that matter why not some bouys around the island like at ship rock etc. They do it in the keys and many other places to protect life below and it seems that we need to get on board?

Going to Farnsworth Tevis? Have you been practicing your live pick up technique?

Just kidding you man. Your dive trips are legend......wait for it.......dary! I'm looking forward to the next time I get to dive with you.

Responsibility, maintenance and liability seem to be the two biggest reasons why a buoy has not been installed already.
