for cold water diving, looking for wetsuits. I like the idea of the farmer john, the ability to zip most of the top off when the weather is good. But are we missing something in a full body suit. I have dove with the farmer john and my hands were really the only thing that may have gotten too cold. What do you say people?

Thanx, go'n to Cancun in a month, ya baby!!

You are missing that extra layer on your core with a full suit but you gain mobility. Personally I get colder in my new one piece suit than in my ancient and compressed farmer john. You can use a hooded vest to add a core layer to a full suit. I have a heck of a time getting out of my hooded vest because it's a one piece with no zippers. I recommend you try a couple styles on before going that route to check the aggravation factor

Like Ber said. With the Farmer John/ Jane, you have double the insulation over the core of your body for more warmth, but it is much more difficult to move in. I've never used a 1 piece 7mm suit, so can't compare. I'm such a cold water wus that any more, if it's too cold to dive my 3mm, I dive dry.

I have used both. Farmer Johns are less comfortable but easier to put on and slightly warmer. I prefer a fullsuit with a zippered hooded vest: best of both worlds.
