I have a photographically challenged camera. By that I mean it's just an Olympus Stylus 740 in an underwater housing, but if anyone is interested, go here to see the pics/video I took: http://tomsanddebsvacations.shutterfly.com/ To see details of pic, put cursor in upper right hand corner of picture. A menu will drop down and just a bit down, click details and it will tell you a bit about the picture. Also, scroll down to first video: moray eel on the prowl. I took that on one of our Roatan dives.

I have a photographically challenged camera.

There is no such thing ,
Arguably some of the best nature photos ever taken were by Ansel Adams with equipment by todays standars is obsolete yet has never been able to be repruduced in its truest form and at the same time there are art galleries in NY displaying cell phone and disposable camera images for big money. I cant tell you how many people have seen some of my images and commented something like " wow, you must have a great camera' yet if i handed it to them they would be lost. While I am only a moderate photographer I wonder, Did people look at great artists and think their brushes did the work? Did great musicians become great because they had a better instrument? PLEASE, there is no shame in taking less than quality images, I was on the boat once when Stephen Frink was needing to do a christmas card back in the film days and he had 6 Nikonos cameras packed tight with film for one image and thats cool but dont blame the camera if you could have gotten closer, framed better, used lighting better, not silted up the pic, changed strobes or a multitude of other things.
You can even READ HERE for more info on why YOUR CAMERA DOESN"T MATTER .

Now I should be able to put links in my messages.

Here is the direct link:

Roatan November 2009

If you click back to the photo sets you can see my pics from our trip to Roatan in May 2009 when I was still using my favorite camera, Canon SD550.

Thanks for the update. We're only 3 weeks out from our trip to FI. We don't have many dives so this should be lots of fun and should be able to ring the count meter multiple times.

Great pics too!!!

You KNOW he was moving too fast and my camera was in the wrong mode!!! Couldn't change it fast enough. I know you think Lise, Tom and I really didn't see it, but we DID!!!

I'm heading there in Feb. can't wait to go back. I was there 2 yrs. ago and had a great time. Great pics. Rodney! I'm sad to see a lion fish there though they hadn't made it there yet last time I visited.

Thanks for the kind words on my pics. This was my first time out with a Canon G10. My old faithful Canon SD550 bit the dust so I got the G10.......

My last underwater set up died while in Indonesia, and I recently replaced it with the G10 (and the Canon housing). I have yet to use it underwater, and I am overwhelmed by all the settings available! I also have a YS-DX 90 S&S strobe.

I would be anxious to hear any suggestions on what settings you've tried?

I suspect I will ignore the "underwater" setting, and have it on "P" and adjust from there?

Or are you going to tell me you had everything set on Auto, and you got all those great shots?? :D

Thanks in advance, and sorry for diverting the thread....
