Maneater, Gibbon and I are planning on Freediving/Diving Fanning this Saturday. I know it's not deep and the basin is small, but it's a nice family location and since I have the pass, it's free!!!!!!! Anywho......
They have a great diving platform for swimmers, a decent area to fish from, nature trails, and sand boils and freediving areas for those who have never seen it. Max depth is only 20 feet. I was told by a ranger there that SCUBA is permitted ONLY inside the basin, NOT in the river area because of the boat traffic. I dropped by there a few weeks ago and it was a beautiful site.
My back is still sore so I'm not sure how long I'll be in the water, but we may setup a grill and throw down for lunch while the kid plays in the playground. We may get there mid morning if all goes well. (van is still packed with Ginnie stuff, minus food). Betwen rain and the back problem, I haven't been able to unload the dive gear! See ya there... Look for us if ya go. I may be taking the van. :dazzler1:

FYI, we DID go to fanning springs today, but due to the crowd, we never got out of the car.
Instead we drove down to Manatee Springs, and free dove there.
There weren't that many people in the water (maybe 15) and only 2 divers. Saw some other divers gearing up/down over by the hotel, but nobody was actually in the hotel at the time.
