Does anyone have any idea what's the failure rate for the D350/D400's plastic diaphragm cover?

I've noticed mine looked brittle the last time I watched it dismantled during a service. Sure enough, today, the outer ring cracked on mine and broke loose as the tech was removing the rubber cover. So currently, it can no longer be securely tightened on the case by itself. How often does this happen?

How much does this part normally cost? The tech managed to reassemble the reg but at the moment, the rubber cover is what's essentially bracing the diaphragm cover in place. It does feel snug but I'm afraid of the diaphragm slipping off underneath in a dive so this doesn't seem to be too comforting.

Any feedback?

I have only had one fail in 20 or so years of owning them and they tend to fail due to being over tightened. They are not expensive and they are still available as it is the same as the D400 cover.

One thing to do with your new cover before you install it - check it for any sharp flashing or burrs. I have had covers with sharp flashing that if bent downwards will then slice and dice your diaphragm as you screw it on. You can probably guess how I discovered that - and my not repeatable in polite company comments immediately afterwards...

I may have found a vendor for this part. Can anyone tell me if any non-D series Scubapro reg model has a part that looks similar to this? (The vendor wasn't entirely sure if the out-of-the-packaging part she found in her stock was for the D400.)

The X650 purge cover looks similar.

Since the D400 was the descendant of the Air1 and Pilot, I was actually looking for schematics of those but didn't think of the X650. At this point, it's quite clear that I'll need one clearly packaged/labeled w/ the part number for the D series. Thank you so much for that input!!

Anyone know the diameter of the X650 and D400's diaphragm covers?

If you're talking about the hard plastic cover that screws down on the diaphragm, the X650 and D400 are different part numbers and the friction rings are different part numbers. I would be surprised if they were interchangable, but you should be able to order a D400 cover. Good luck!

The covers are the same diameter and the D400 cover will screw onto an X650. However, the flange in the center of the part is higher on the D400 - about .456" compared to about .388".

So the X650 cover would be too short to use on the D400.

Mattboy: Diaphragm cover--the hard plastic cover that looks like a spoked wheel. The last time I spoke to an authorized scubapro dealer, they wouldn't sell parts unless I was a dive shop.
