You won't need your chainsaw, which is nice, since airlines won't fly them.

Think of air in the 80s and water in the 70s to 80s. Sounds too hot? You'll love it. Still depends on the final destination decision? Cozumel water and air temps are usually a little warmer than the Florida Keys and Gold Coast. I was in Coz last January after a cold front, though. Water was great with a 1 mil, but got chilled in the wind afterwards. What I call cold air :cold: is probably a lot different that what you'd call cold, though.

stay in touch, don

Can you explain to this Canadian diver what "too cold" means to you? :)

Hi Scuba Guys and Gals!

I'm just waiting on a few more details to be worked out and we'll have ALL the trip details. Currently I've had a few folks ask that it not be the weekend of the 7-8th of Feb nor the last weekend of the month.

That leaves Feb 14th weekend and Feb 21st weekend. Does anyone else have preferences for either of those two weekends as they are both open right now and they are the two I'm trying to decide between!

Thanks for the input....hope to see you all diving soon!

PM me the details when available. I'd probably go for a long weekend type trip... Not enough vacation for a full week. This sounds like an awesome way to fill the Jan/Feb void....

Well - unless folks wanna hit Gilboa then... It doesn't freeze over does it....? I got my brand new drysuit and argon gear ready to go!

drew your kidding me right, no flights from GCM to CZM other then the slow loud boat.

A cruise ship isn't what I'd call civilized transport from GCM to CZM. I can't get there without going through Miami, Houston, or La Ceiba.

Am I the only one who will be wearing a thicker than normal wetsuit? Gotta' break out the full 3mm for the cold water of Florida.

ok i can understand that, because thats a long over water leg, and GCM strip doesnt look like it could could handle anything above a 757, maybe a 767, which would be needed to to over ocean legs(or am i wrong, ? what does british airways use to fly in ?)

GCM can land damn near anything that flies. Oddly enough, the US government frequently has military aircraft in the area. In the event of an emergency landing, those aircraft south of Cuba divert here. Happens about once a month between commercial and military planes.

Seems they don't want to try Havana's airport for some reason?

BA flies a 767 here. It stops in Nassau each way.i

that strip could land a DC11, 777, 747 man i didnt think it was that long.

what type of military aircraft are having to land in GCM ?

(Y'all's PM buttons broken?) :jump:

Spoke with The Wench this morning, and she almost has the packages ready to look at, but things keep slipping out of focus. Kinda' like penning cattle with a couple of mavericks in the bunch. You'll approach the corral and, one of the mavs will cut out; you'll cut it back in, and a mav on the other side will cut out; been there many times.

Anyway, The Wench wants to offer two packages, and hopes to be able to do so any day now. She may not get things done over the weekend, as the providers she's trying to work with may not be available until Monday; not sure? But soon... :mean:

The runway is a bit over 7000ft. It can handle a B777.

Military planes have included weather recon "hurricane hunter" planes, c130 cargo planes, and a few "others" that have required tight security.

On the commerical side, a Lan Chile jet made an emergency landing after smoke penetrated the passenger cabin. The airline put up the passengers and crew at the Holiday Inn while a maintenence crew was flown in from NYC. For two days, the crew looked over every wire looking for damage. The final verdict was that the smoke came from the cookies baking for the first class passengers. The plane was cleared for take-off, and the unexpected Cayman vacation was welcomed by some of the stuck passengers.

Now about that single's trip... when? :)
