Markings read as follows:
FABER MADE IN ITALY M8303 02/2508/ 058 01^02+

TC-3AAM-209/DOT-3AA 2730 REE58

From what I can tell the M8303 Id's it as a Faber tank
02/2508/ I 'think' is a serial #
not sure what the 058 means
01^02+ means manufactured 2002 with 10% overfill allowed
Canadian and DOT steel markings
2730 I think means working pressure with a 10% overfill that gives this tank 3000psi....???

REE58 is the testing marking (I think).

So - anyone know what the capacity is? is this a 5.8 liter tank? I don't have it in hand - but am told it is approx 23" tall without valve.....

this it?

SCUBAPRO-FABER Steel Scuba Tank - eBay (item 150365634828 end time Aug-19-09 17:26:38 PDT)

M8303 is the DOT/TC code for US/Canada for Faber tanks.. I would think it was a 58cf cylinder, but I don't know that Faber made a 58cf cylinder

don't know they made a 2730 psi cylinder either. (maybe I'm wrong)
but what you say with the plus rating to 3000psi makes sense.
01^02+ indicates manufacturer of Jan 02 with PLUS rating.

3aam = Chrome Molybedebum Steel Metric(I think)

REE58 is the Rejection Elastic Expansion. This is a number of cubic centimeters used by the hydrostatic tester. It has to do with getting the + rating at next hydro somehow.

My Faber 95ft3 cylinders have a S95 on the opposite side of the markings you describe to indicate the size.

The 58 is the serial number within the lot...

The 58 is the maximum cc expansion during a hydro for it to keep it's plus 10 percent overfill. With 10% overfill it is a 3000 psi tank. If it loses it's "plus" on a subsequent hydro, it becomes a 2730 psi tank.

If you can find the diameter, I can probably look up the capacity. Since it is a 3AA tank, it is much heavier than the more modern Faber HP tanks.

I think it's an 80, I have a friend with a tank that looks just like that only it's not scubapro, it's branded faber. It's not any heavier (maybe a little lighter?) than an AL80, same diameter, a couple of inches shorter.

Diameter and length without valve is needed to verify capacity.

Faber made two tanks of about that size with 2730psi +10% working pressure. Both were 77.4 CF @3000psi (the same as an AL80). One weighed 31.1 pounds and the other one weighed 37.4 pounds.

A modern HP80 holds a true 80 CF at 3442psi and weighs around 28 pounds

Not sure which 58 is being discussed.

REE58

Reject Elastic Expansion 58 cc

See four posts up (WD8CDH) for the rest of the story

This number is the complete serial number 02/2508/ 058

02 - year made
2508 - batch
058 - cylinder number within the batch
