It was actually OK if I took my time with foot placement. I think it would be better with sidemount though. Also, the first time I had a full flood on my Drysuit. The second time I just wore a bathing suit. I got a few stares, but it beat walking up those stairs with 50 extra pounds of water around my legs! :D

Been there done that. That drysuit full of water is no fun at all.

I once swam to just over 1200ft on 1/6ths....rox11@ucf can verify this.

I could do it but not in a strong flow like JB or Ginnie. I have done 800p on 1/6ths at JB before.

Please stay on-topic, if you have an issue with anything else with the OP please take it up with him via PM. Publicly attacking someone is not going to help the situation, educating them is going to go a lot further.

If someone is advocating an unsafe practice and PM's don't fix it (or you don't wish to discuss it via PM) please use the "Report!" button so that the staff can try to deal with the issue. We do not want unsafe info out here any more than you do but public attacks or "calling someone out" almost never works.

If anyone has any issues with this feel free to PM me you can always email abuse@scubaboard.com if you feel a staff member has acted improperly.

Guess I never put my distances and stuff here. 2500p was the most. I am more into what I see than how far I go. Things like Chicken Head Rock in JB, the Big E in downstream Hole in the wall and so fourth. Oh and Hole in the wall is stil my favorite so far.
 
I was just totally amazed the day I went into Peacock and came out in Olsen Sink.. "Cool! I went into one hole in the ground and came out another!"
 
For me, at least, it isn't about the distance. It was at first, I have to admit, but diving in JB, fighting the then fairly ferocious flow, and only getting 900 feet back (on thirds...*sigh*) was kind of frustrating. Since I coudn't get very far back, I started actuallly looking around more instead of looking at distance markers, and realized just how much there was to see. Sure, I think it's cool when I read about divers who are making long penetrations, and I do want to do that someday (years from now), but for now, I'm perfectly content with my piddly little dives :D

I'm with you! One of the things I want to do on my next trip to FL is find somebody who's willing to spend a whole dive playing around in the gallery at Ginnie. I want to try different parts of the passage and see what the flow is, and watch the other divers come and go -- it's such a pretty passage, and everybody blasts through it in hurry to go look at OTHER wet rocks :)
 
One of my more favorite cave dives was diving with Kevin C. in the cavern at JB. I thought I would be a little bored, spending an entire dive playing around in the cavern, but there's so much to see! :) It was just awesome to be able to poke around in the rocks, looking at the various embedded fossils and such. On that same note, I really love just hanging out in the cavern at Vortex. There's this spot to the left that's just big enough to tuck yourself into...I would cover my light, and watch the other teams (err...random OW divers) come and go, and enjoy seeing the light filter in from the surface. Even the Vortex cavern can be breathtakingly beautiful if you're willing to stop and just hover for awhile.
