Boy seriously injured in oxygen cylinder explosion on Ploče beach

The boy was at least 50 meters as the crow flies from where the scuba tank exploded, but the flying metal hit him in the wrist.

A 14-year-old boy was seriously injured after an oxygen cylinder exploded on the counter where divers keep their equipment, "Vijesti" has learned.

Another minor was slightly injured in the incident that occurred on Ploče beach, in the Kotor municipality, a police source told Television Vijesti.

The seriously injured boy was at least 50 meters as the crow flies from where the diving tank exploded, but the flying metal hit him in the wrist.

After receiving treatment at the Clinical Hospital Center in Kotor, he was transferred to the Risan Hospital.

These are tourists from abroad, originally from Montenegro.

A minor from Serbia sought help at the Emergency Medical Service in Budva, and was diagnosed with minor injuries.

In addition to the Police Directorate, Television Vijesti was told that their officers and other services are on the ground and are working to establish all the facts and circumstances of the event, precisely determine how the explosion occurred, and possibly take further actions within their jurisdiction.

Based only on what is in this report, it is amazing more people weren't hurt.

You have to wonder about people near the explosion who were left out of the story.

There is a short video on the local news portal showing the aftermath of the incident and the nearby crowded beach located between dive center and place where kid was hit.

Only by luck this didn't end up far more severe

A dive shop employee in another country, whom I had known for years, was filling tanks and one blew right through his torso. 🥺

When I drop my tanks for filling here in Tripoli, I get in my car and drive away before the guy starts filling my tanks or anyone else's tanks. I usually come back the next day. If anything is going to go off, it is usually when it is being filled :)

Corrected, thanks. I am not familiar with the region.

Some of the tanks laying on the ground look pretty sketchy. The white one on the left appears to have rust where the boot would be. I don't know any thing about Eastern European scuba cylinders, like where they are sourced or what inspection schedule they have. Amazing no one was killed. It looked, from the video, like pretty crowded beach.

I suspect, they had left the tank in the sun and that was why no one was directly next to it. Just a guess.

The "students" in training with the state of the art full face masks and packet of fags. (cigarettes) with the compressor in question with its ropey inadequate old filter and electrical control panel. A wonder to me why no one drowned or was electrocuted.
