And by way of contrast the professional approach of the dive school instructors.
Any wonder some may suggest an accident waiting to happen.

Note the sign on the white pillar with its 100m DAN approved exclusion zone sticker.
The kid who lost his hand was some 50m (165 feet ) away so not worry I guess.

I have seen and dived with sketchier looking operations, most of whom don't blow up tanks. I'm curious what directly caused the explosion and hope to see more details. Surely negligence somewhere.

Was it a neglected tank? No hydrostatic pressure tests done? No visual inspections?
I thought cylinders would fail in a controlled manner if they were only overfilled.
Was there an oxygen fire?

They have a burst disk that will rupture if the tank is significantly over filled. They make a god awful noise as the pressure drains. This was a structural failure of the tank. Why it failed is anybody's guess. It may have been steel and corroded or it may been damaged previously and decided that was the day it decided fail catastrophically. It the metal may have just fatigued with age or a manufacturing defect. I have no idea what the requirements for Balkan scuba gear are.

Anyhow moving on from the wokery brigade.

I read that the 14 year old lad was on holiday and 50 meters (165 feet) away and has now had his hand amputated. A reflection of taking a vacation to areas where the capacity and capability of small rural health centres and hospitals may not be as well equipped to treat serious diving accidents.

Or any accident, really. That’s why it’s a rural area.
