Seriously? You haven't been able to recoupe the costs of the IDCin 6 years? I think you need to look in to a change of scenery, my first full year teaching I did 15-20k in tips! A dive instructor is a great way to make a living!

To be honest with you,I know this sounds wrong and unpopular here, but I prefer the high costs involved. It weeds out alot of the unsuccessfull instructors, usually inept ones, that may only teach for a year or two, and what may be left, for the most part, are the ones who are successfull at making $ at what they love to do.

I agree 100%, besides, the courses really are not expensive... Think about it this way, instead of $2500+ just for the week here, the week there, it is $500 all in and any dumbass can get their instructors, what does that do to the cost of an O/W course? $25, $50, Who is going to teach on O/W for $50? The costs are reasonable for all the courses and they should continue to grow with inflation!

... oh an you don't get tipped outside of the American Continent; for diving, very often....

and now I have a rather large Visa bill and I've quit Full time teaching to go back to university...

I became an instructor to teach friends and Boy Scouts. Now I live in Key Largo and train peeps through instructor. Even if I never recouped my ITC, it was all worth it.

Fair Play, Oz was no good for tips, but $130 a day wasn't too bad, but for me at least defnintely worth it, 1000-2000 dives on the GBR, Can't put a price on that, I wouldn't give up what I do for anything. Great place for good wages and tips, Grand Cayman!
