Hi,
does anyone have experience with these waterproof bags for small digicams?
It is supposed to be waterproof up to 20 m, but I actually want something up to 40m.
Unfortunately I am to greedy at the moment to buy a real housing for my old digicam.

I have something like the bag attached...

DO you think it will work?

Regards
PHil

There is a definite limit to the depth rating of any soft housing. At a fairly shallow depth all of the buttons on the camera will get pushed. If you go deep enough the camera body itself can get crushed.

I'd be skeptical of flexible bags. I had one for swimming with my iPod and it leaked. A small amount of pool water in the bag killed the iPod. Now I use a hard plastic box with an O ring made by OtterBox.

For a camera I'd get a proper housing with O ring and pass on the bag.

We used to have one of the waterproof bags. Only intended to use it for snorkeling and kayaking and it was too much of a pain. Didn't leak but just too awkward to use and press buttons, never mind what it would be like when the bag compressed around the camera.

I also wouldn't take anything all the way to it's depth rating. Often what is advertised is a static pressure but real life isn't static. Watches rated to 30m, for example, they usually only say ok for using in the rain or the shower but not even swimming never mind diving to any depth.
