expensive dive watch on a newbie

I have an Omega(Titanium). The Nice thing unlike a Rolex(I used to have one), is I'm not continualy ask if it is real or fake. The Omega no one really seems to care about, and still the Best Watch I've ever owned.

I sometimes clip it to my Harness D-Ring for a backup timer when in a Drysuit.

I am unabashed watch fantatic and last year I got a high end Omega dive watch as a gift. I will be doing my classroom and pool sessions for OW certification in a couple of weeks and am wondering if I will look like the ultimate poseur if I wear my watch to class. I know in the end this doesn't mean a thing and it is a silly question but I gotta ask. I'll probably still wear it no matter what.

If it's a high end watch, The shop will think you have lots of $$ and expect you to buy all top of the line gear from them.

After years, My wife made me ( yep "made me") buy the eco drive aqualand 20th anniversary JV0030-01E. Have not had it wet yet, still wear it everyday.... The "average " person takes no note of it, but walking into the LDS gets plenty of comments and just "looks"...Wear it, you can't have it buried with you, well I guess you could but then who'd tell how long you've been down there.....

Sure. Go ahead and wear it. But be advised: diving can be tough on things. Expect to scratch or even lose it.

Also, as a design engineer I have to warn you - watch manufacturers know that the overwhelming majority of dive watches will never go deeper than a swimming pool. The design cost of making it water resistant to 100 meters are balanced against the projected number of warranty returns they project. You should also notice that the watch community now labels their products "water resistant" instead of "waterproof". This is because waterproof has a legal definition. "Water resistant" has an engineering definition. Your watch is probably built to meet ISO Standard 2281 and/or 6425. You might want to have a peek at what the water resistance rating on your watch really means. It isn't what you think.

For instance, an ISO depth rating of 30 meters is only tested to 1 meters for 30 minutes and 20 meters for 90 seconds. It doesn't have to go to 30 meters and it doesn't have to be tested for repeat dives. It might survive, it might not. Either way, Omega doesn't care because they have factored in the cost of warranty claims (you might want to read your warranty carefully though).

I have a TAG Heuer that is rated to 200 meters. I don't dive it though because I know what it was actually tested to. My $20 Timex Ironman has been dived many times though.

I have a Tag as well. It has been on a 50 plus dives with me My Ebel has also been on many a dive. So far, so good. As promised.

That's too nice of a watch to lose to diving. Get a cheapo Casio G shock for diving and save your good watch for dry land. It's easy to break or lose things while diving.

How would you break both locking clasps on a Tag while diving? I've never knocked off both on land in five years of daily wear and can't fathom how someone could do this underwater on accident. It's actually a pain to take the watch off when I want to!

I got my girlfriend a nice dive watch for her birthday. She got upset that I got her something for diving :shakehead But anyways, she won't even wear it in the shower. I constantly tell her that it is ment for water!! So I say, if you have it use it! That is what the person bought it for right?? Don't want to offend them :no

I just bought a Citizen Aqualand Duplex myself - I liked it and it'll serve as bottom timer and back-up depth gauge as well.

Wear your watch in good health.

The Nato, velcro or Waterborne strap would be a good idea though.
