OK,
The excise tax, the state, oh excuse me, The Common Wealth of Mass has decided that:
1. A personal auto is a luxury there for it is fair game for tax
2. Since so much money is needed to fight WW2,............YES WW2 the state will tax the personal auto. Once the war is over we will stop the tax,
:moon:

notabob once bubbled...
Excise is actually pretty common, a number of states have it. I used to live in Maine and had to pay it there too. It's actually higher in ME! Registration is actually for the plates. And unless you get special or vanity plates, it's pretty reasonable at $41 for 2 years. Excise tax is for use of state roads, and is calculated based on the value of your car. It will be getting smaller every year. Shouldn't be any more taxes. Overall, in Mass. the car costs are:

Registration (every 2 yrs)
Excise tax (every year)
Inspection (every year)
License renewal (every 5 yrs)
Insurance (every year)
Speeding tickets (whenever, in Aaron's case, every few months :) )

-Roman.

So could you help me out then..... I live in NH and work in Mass. If the Excise tax is for the roads and services that relate to the roads then what do they use my income tax for? At least I felt good knowing I was pitching in for the awesome roads they have down here that really extend the useful life of my car.

Not to mention after I give them all this for what I thaught was roads since it is the only state service I use they turn around and don't let me vote on how it is used. Was it not Mass that had a small tea party about taxation.....

Actually DC has it right on their License plates "taxation without representation"

You brought it up so I figured I would vent also.

Pete

Excise Tax are not for the roads, I ma sure they are used a little for the roads but mostly it is a tax for you to own a car. the state sales tax and income tax are where the road money come from.
At least that is what they taught in school.
