in Lake Michigan, three friends did 2 dives. A guy that was also on the boat, that they didn't know, skipped the second dive. When they returned to the dock, the other guy left right away. Two of them later discovered their money missing. One guy had his money stashed away better.

Apparently the guy went through there stuff while they were in the water. It sucks.

The only "theft" of scuba gear I regularly encounter is with loose dive weights. If your gear is in close proximity to others and dive times are not synchronous, very often the weights you leave around get mistakenly yanked by other divers.

I think I've lost ~30 lbs over the last five years. Now I spray-paint the lead in *special* colors.

I've been wondering this for a while - has anyone ever had scuba or camera gear stolen off a dive boat...)

Hey, I stole some dive gear last weekend. Grabbed something and just drove off with it. I got home and found this weight bag in my truck that was not mine. Looked identical to mine but it wasn't. I "un-stole" it later that afternoon. Point is "stuff happens".

Found a mask in side my bag once too. Took some effort to straighten that out.

I figure this kind of stuff must be common, more so then intentional theft. I mean really,
You steel some gear then what do you do with it? , you can't be seen on the beach or a
boat using it later

Sounds like my hideous pink weight belt and pink coated weights. Repels others, works for me, LOL!

Seriously, I suppose theft could happen, particularly with camera gear left in the galley overnight. Better to be safe than sorry, I suppose.

I often boat dive and my main concern is leaving stuff out on the boat overnight. I do, of course I just figure that is what insurance is for.

Sometimes people will just steal anything for the sake of stealing. My husband came home from the driving range (golf) having a fit. While he took a break to run to the restroom, someone came by and stole the golf cover off one of his drivers. Didn't steel the driver just the cover. Of course the cover was from Pebble Beach, special edition, to commerate their anniversary. Go figure, they leave an expensive club to take the cover. I think that he was more upset that the cover was stolen than if the club would have been. Can't get that particular cover anymore.
