I absolutely love dolphins... and hope one day to see some while diving. I guess you could say that would be my diving dream come true.

Have you ever seen dolphins while diving? Where? Do they ever interact with divers?

Thanks... :coffee:

Its not wild dolphins, but check out Anthony's Key in Roatan.

Ought to see the stills & video I have of that 'dive'----our son worked in the photoshop there for a year & a half....

On one dive, I don't remember if it was in Belize or Bonaire. You could hear them coming long before we saw them. They swam through the group of divers and just kept going.

I've seen them a few times in Hawaii, a couple times close enough to touch if I had reached out. I doubt they would have gone for that though. In both cases, they came up to be around me, and I'm with you, it was a thrill! There is a pen operation in Kona that has Atlantic bottlenose dolphins you can wade in with, for a big price. There are also dolphin chasing boats there that will try to put you in with local spinner dolphins, but with a load of tourists splashing in, the dolphins aren't always cooperative. We rented a small boat in Kailua and had good luck getting in with them on our own. It's a matter of whether they are willing - you'll quickly see whether they approach you or run. At some point, persistent overtures become harassment. They also come into some coves along Kona where you can get lucky, but the understanding is that they're there to rest so it's controversial if you approach closely. But if you hang out, they may approach you. In SoCal I've seen huge pods of dolphins race from the horizon to be near the boat when they see it, so their seeming interest in what goes on around them is clear, but I haven't tried getting in the water with them.

You're in Florida, where's Flipper these days?

Guess,I'm the lucky one sofar,:D

3 year ago,we where in the RedSea,to do a wreckdive at Abu Nuhas.
Just a couple of minutes into the dive we heard THEM.:D
The Dolfins came up to us and started "throwing"small stones and bits of dead coral at us.
We thrue them back and they caught them and thrue them back to us again.
So far this would have been the best dive in my life, untill I streched my arm out.....

One of the BIG dolfins swam into the arch of my arm and took me for a ride. :yeahbaby:

THAT WAS THE BEST DIVE OF MY LIFE.

The dolfins stayed with us for the better part of an hour, then we all run low on air.:depressed:

We had the time of our life.:D

btw we didn't see the wreck that time.:rofl3:

Wow... that sounds amazing!!! And exactly what I'd call the best dive of a lifetime!!

Thank you so much for sharing that experience with us!

I wish I knew... I've seen dolphins once. I lived in Palm Coast, my house was on a salt water canal. There was a brick wall that held the canal water, that ran right next to my house. We had a bench, and I would go sit out there often to think. The road was nearby, so where it reached the part where the road began, it was grated off. One day I was sitting out there and 2 dolphins swam by... I couldn't believe my eyes... not in a million years would I have expected to see dolphins, I didn't think it was that deep. They turned around when they reached the grated off part... and as they swam by again, they stopped and began to "play" right in front of me. They only stayed a minute or so, and swam off... but it was breath taking.

Wild dolphins in Galapagos ...many encounters at Darwin and Wolf Island. They seem connected as they swim by and they seem to be thinking a step ahead of the rest of the sealife. Sometimes they come a little too close and a little too fast for my taste ( meaning I don't wanna be rammed ) They turn at a pretty safe distance usually. I have seen them in other places but never as "wild" as Galapagos.

I was on the Oriskany a couple years ago on descent and thought "why is someone's computer alarm going off on the way DOWN?"

A pod of dolphins swam by at 15-20 feet and didn't stay too long, but they played around a bit with two members of our group who were on rebreathers.
