Clips are very good. However, I noticed two things:
- SMB deploymet - AG forgot to check above
- V-drill - Faisal made backup reg purge, unnecesarry for single tank

Also there are few differences comparing to DIR-F:
- primary light cable under the long hose (AG 1 min ascent)
- showing SPG to OOG diver (S-drill)
- regulator recovery (Basic 6)

The differences that you noted are all purposefully done. WRT to the showing the SPG during the S-drill... AG articulated some of the reasons behind it. I'm not sure if it is appropriate for me to do the copy and paste thing so I'll let 5thd-x decide if they want to address it here.

Adobo, We do in fact address the differences and reasoning's behind those on the 5thd-x forums. http://forum.5thd-x.com/viewforum.php?f=98. We have section called DVD Support and Updates that will help outline some of these types of questions as well as release any updates to the DVD's. As far as "Faisal checking his backup before shutting down the valve, this is done to build muscle memory for when you move to doubles. You will check the backup before shutting down the right post.

Andrew

BTW why do you look up during a SMB deploy. Your buddy is in front of you and you are deep enough there is no boat or other stuff to concern yourself with http://www.scubaboard.com/images/smilies/Standard Smiles/06.gif

When I released my bag during DIRF, my instructor (Steve White), who had been lying in wait out of site above and behind me, swam over and grabbed the bag. Even though I had looked up, he said I failed to be completely situationally aware. A diver, unknown by me to be on site, could have swam over me as I released the bag and become tangled, he said.

Opinion?

I believe that's the main reason why to check above finaly before releasing the bag.

It's clear now. It was hard to believe that this was done without purpose. Maybe this should've been explained in workbook and in "cut" video.

One more thing that crossed my mind: SPG check (guesstimate) isn't included in Basic skills. And later it's included in S-drill. Doesn't look like building blocks.

Truthfully speaking checking above you is something I might do only if "needed". Meaning, if there are other teams in the water decoing above me, generally I will check but 99.9% of diving I do the team (my buddies) is together and the chances of someone swimming into my bubble stream, waiting for me to shot a SMB and then being hit by my SMB are nil. (Try it, Try to hit someone with your bag :D ) Then of course keep in mind with visibility most of the time being less than 10ft/3m I doubt you could see the entire path of the bag anyways. Take a moment and consider... if you were doing the 70ft/21m deco stop, free hanging and shot the SMB to mark my position .
