What kind scuba gear you looking?

what type of gear you looking for? BC - regs? i can never really find anything good on ebay but i dont try to find it really. I like to use scubaboard to shop 2 with the forums best forums ever..

There's a bunch of good brands. I'd take a look at some real dive shops that sell online to get an idea of what's decent. Try http://www.scubatoys.com/, http://www.diversdirect.com/ and (where I've bought most of my gear) http://www.divers-discount.com/.

I guess I should put in the usual warning here that any used equipment that your life depends on needs to be checked out by a qualified technician before you use it. So keep the price of inspection/repair in mind when you are shopping.

ok well im looking on ebay for gear, only because i know a lot about ebay, but i need to know good brands...

I strongly suggest you consult your local dive shop (LDS) until you have enough experience to know what you are looking for & how much it is worth. Ebay is only good if you understand what you need to buy.

JMHO,

I like Scubapro, It seams to hold up the best. You can buy it on e-bay. Scubapro and e-bay rule!

Lowwall.......don't forget us. We are right there with the big dogs............just more personal service.

Happy Diving

Getting gear savy is more of a challenge thanbecoming certified IMO. Getting clever enough to make good gear buys on Ebay ratchets it up a few more notches. Until you feel you are on top of the gear situation stick to buying where you can see, touch and be advised.

Don't be a chump, devour the gear forums so you know what you're looking at. Ask the LDS plenty of questions and if you BS meter sounds off back off to reconsider.

If you do buy on EBAY be sure to have any part of a regulator rig or BC serviced profesionally before diving it.

Welcome to diving and to Scubaboard.

Two things that never should be together. New Diver and Ebay.

Ebay is a great place, but not for the new diver. Fist of all I have seen more than one item there being sold as SCUBA equipment that was not. SCBA tanks sold as SCUBA tanks (big difference) and other items that are unsuited for diving. Yet the sellers, who always claim to know nothing about SCUBA or the gear they are selling for "a friend" or "got from a friend" sell it as SCUBA gear. When you educate them about the facts and provide the Government websites to prove their gear is NOT SCUBA approved, they continue to market it anyway.

Bottom line, Be carefull. Ebay is not the place for the person who is not well versed in what they are buying. It is buyer be ware.

I have also seen items selling on e-bay for much more than my local dive shop sells the same item new with warranty for. Used gear, or new gear without warranty for only $60.00 more (plus shipping) than new gear with warranty. What a bargain.

I also recommend holding off for a little bit on buying gear in general. Many of those very items you see on e-bay or garage sales are from divers who got certified, did one or two post certification dives and never went back. Find out if diving is the love of your life or a passing infatuation. Try different typres and brands of gear to see what you like.

If you do buy used life support equipment (BC, REGULATOR, TANK) have it serviced before you dive it. It could save your life.
