I'll be in Coz in February and I need a new Suunto Vyper computer.
Where I live import taxes are high and this will cost me at least 700USD.
Can anyone tell me if there any shops in Coz that sell equipment and what the prices are like?

Import taxes are high in Cozumel as well and you'll pay much more for equipment here than you would in the US. SOmetimes as much as 100% more. Selection is limited on the island as well.

If you're not set on Suunto, we do have a very reasonable Sherwood dealer on the island who sells Sherwood/Genesis/Akona BCD's, regs, computers, wetsuits for very reasonable prices.

Studio Blue is a ScubaPro dealer, but prices are high.

Pro-Dive and their sister store across the street sell Mares and Cressi, although I have seen Suunto's there for outrageous prices. BCD's and wetsuits are also expensive in these two stores.

I saw a Cobra & Vyper in the "Low Tax Shop" across from the cruise ship piers, prices were $325 & $600.

I forgot my Suunto Mosquito one time and thought about buying another one (so my wife and I would eventually have the same computer)... anyway, price was about $75-$100 more than what I could get it for in the U.S. This was at Pro-dive and the one across the street. I passed on it...

We stopped in the shop across from Scuba Club last time just to take a peek. I don't remember what computer prices were but if anyone needs a wetsuit, they had Bare Velocity wetsuits for a pretty reasonable price. Not as good as the U.S. ($25 more?) but I wouldn't feel cheated if I needed one.

I'm fairly set on Suunto as I already use a Vyper (for the last 200+ dives) and I'm very satisfied with it so I want either a Vyper or a Mosquito for my wife. Her computer is an old non Nitrox model and as we just completed 2 weeks of Nitrox diving it kept going into deco and its beeping was driving us crazy. Plus I also have the Suunto interface unit for my computer.
Anyway I received by PM a couple of offers from US residents that will be in Coz at the same time as us and they offered to carry one from the US for me. So I'm checking the dates.

That was going to be my next suggestion :) That's how I get alot of stuff I need and can't get here or can't afford here :)

thanks in advance

Hernan, the Sherwood guy is on 15th on the right as you drive south and yeah--I think maybe before you get to calle 5 although I can't remember the cross streets........small building set back a bit but the sign is obvious.........he's not often there during the day but almost always in the evenings..............Betsy
