Hi i was just wondering what the prices on dive computers are like in Roatan. Im not sure if i should buy one before i go or if i might get a great deal once we get there. thanks

I have no idea of the pricing in Canada, but if we can buy something in the US, we are much better off doing so than awaiting limited varieties in Roatan. The import duty fees into Roatan Honduras would make such purchases prohibitively expensive. Once again, this is by the pricing we are used to in the States.

Buying used gear in any dive locale is ill advised. After hundreds of salt immersions there has to be a pretty good reason a local pro is selling it. Most likely, it's because it is way out of date.

Your best chance for any such purchase would be in various West End day-dive ops or at Dockside Dive Center at CCV.

What specifically are you looking for? Maybe some West End locals can give you some numbers.

I normally advise for wetsuits, and any gear need a personalized fit to buy locally. For hardware such as computers regs there are some good deals on the island, just check the warranties.

For example on Utila we offer Suunto D4 for $480 and D6 for $695 which are in line with most US places. We also have a Cressi-Sub wrist style for about $400.

I think Will at Coconut Tree has some good deals on the Oceanic wrist computer.

Regards,
Andy

HI, i was actually looking for a console ai, doesnt have to be any particular brand. Pricing is pretty ridiculous here in canada. That is why i was hoping to find a great deal in Roatan. I guess if prices are pretty much the same in the US maybe ill just order one before i go. thanks for the replies.

Blainer, if you have to return the item to roatan for warranty (some companies require you return to point of purchase), it's going to be complicated.

I buy most of my stuff from Scubatoys. They have great prices, and great service. Plus if you tell them you are a scubaboard member, they give you an additional 10% off... There are some great deals to be had.

Cheers!:coffee:
