Lung capacity is largely hereditary. You can mess it up (smoking, disease), but you can't increase it without some serious commitment.

You just need to catch them early: 5-6 yo and swimming or singing or blowing tuba until their teens or longer.
 
There must be a lot of scuba divers who are also musicians. it would be interesting to devise a study to measure the effects of long-terms use of wind instruments on scuba diving. However, I suspect that funding for such a study will not be available any time soon. Another interesting route would be to look at the pulmonary effects of professional opera singing. :)
