I took the day off to relax after our three day trip to the Northern Channel Islands, so I decided to get in a quick local dive. The top twenty feet at Marineland looked very clear, but the bottom was down to eight feet vis. Oh well, time for a nudi hunt. Merry got some great shots while I seemed to be in a dust cloud. I managed to find a Hermissenda doing its impression of Donald Trump.
:uwphotographer:Thanks for the shots, very nice. Looks like the weather will continue to improve all week long.
Now if the VIS improves and the water temp comes up a tad.
#5 of the Diaulula sandiegensis is beautiful. Being able to capture the textures of those white nudi's are incredibly hard to do. Excellent work!
I'm guessing this was a boat dive at Long Point "not Buchanan's"? When I got off work today and took a hike at Ladera Linda, the point / cove was really nice looking. I was tempted to go grab the gear for a quick solo but by the time I finished with my hike, the wind had come up.
Conditions only fair in Malibu. 19 species sighted at El Pescador on Sunday. Over 60 individuals of Aegires sighted. Other interesting finds were Geitodoris and Aeolidella.
Great shot of the snail. I think this is the first time I see the snail shot with the antenae all hanging out like that.
Also, Craig, thanks for the shot of the aegire. Now I know what that darn thing look like in real life. It looks like a sponge or algae of some sort than a nudie.
I was shooting auto ISO on both trips, so it ranged from 100 to 1600. For the Marineland shots I had a button stick (my fault) and was unable to change settings underwater. I shot everything at f36, 1/250 and ISO from 100 to 640. For the shots on the Spirit of America I shot everything from f4.5 to f6.3, but I'd like to go back and use a faster shutter speed. Most shots were a little fuzzy due to the slow speed and bioclutter in the water. I'm still learning this underwater photography thing.
