Hello all,

I have just come back from several great dives, including Cozumel, Belize and Roatan. I have a JVC Everio HDD video camera without a blue water filter. Obviously I will need to "color correct" the blue. I have a PC, and outside of photoshop pro, is there a less expensive software that will allow me to correct? I don't mind paying a couple of hundred, but not 6 or 7. Will Adobe Elements help? Any other suggestions? Thanks so much.

I use Pinnacle Studio v.10 and really like it. It is very user friendly and fun to use. :D Price is around $90-100. The only thing you need to be concerned with is that video programs use alot of memory space when running - so make sure your computer is up to it. :D

Just to be clear, you're wanting to color correct video footage right? If so, take a look at Sony's Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition 8 It will do all you need for $129 or less. They also sell the more basic Vegas Movie Studio 8, it's around $70-90 but has less features.

Both have downloadable demo's.

Photoshop is for stills. Premiere is for video. There's also a Premiere Elements for video. I believe Adobe offers a free trial also. Or try Pinnacle Studio.

Yes, Premier Elements is what i was looking at, and I am using video, not stills. Thanks for the repsonses. I'll look in to those. Unfortunately Elements is not offering the free trials right now, so I'm out of luck there. Please let me know if anyone else has any suggestions. Thank you.

Almost all the ones mentioned can be tried for free. Get on each respective websites and get a trial version.

Just a couple other things. #1---get you a red filter (for blue water). This is paramount. I have only done a couple videos but I think you're going to have ahrd time getting the blue out or getting the reds, yellows and oranges back in.

#2. Don't know how adept you are with a puter, but I'm just a big dumbie and learning. I tried three editing programs before I found what I could work with.

Cyberlink Power Director 6---ended up with blurry video on output.
Sony Vegas Platinum 8----too daunting for my pea sized brain.
Corel ULead 11 Plus---something I could fathom and works pretty well.

I tried each and ended up buying ULead 11.5 Plus from Amazon. Both Amazon and ULead are selling this program for $60. Really really cheap for what it does.

For what it's worth my camcorder is a Sony HC7 with mini-DV tapes.

Thanks again. I downloaded the trial version of Sony, but after playing with it for over an hour, I found out the color corrector plug in is not available on the trial version. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to try one. For $60 it's worth the risk. I'll post the results. Thanks.

Steve I do believe the color correction is there. I have the trial version and it is on my version. Also amazon has it for 89$ with a 30$ rebate. Click on video FX and look for color balance or something, this will bring up a box with 3 color wheels in it and you can go from there.

Fairly new to video shooting, have the Sony HC7 HD camera. Tried Pinnacle and it crashed all the time and color correction was awkward IMHO. Just spent +50hrs editing 9hrs of video from our last trip with Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum and found it much better. Color correction is much closer to what I am accustomed to with PS3 for stills.

Some of the water in this clip was really very green but was able to get it more blue. Not great example but part of this first attempt with Vegas Movie.
