kalvyn:Maybe it's because if you're not careful setting it up, the BP can get on the tank cockeyed? I've been using the Pioneer built-in STA for a couple years now with no problems, myself.

1) I think with a regular STA, you can spread the tank straps out better to help position the tank
2) with the STA I have, I think the tank will have a more stable connection to the BP
3) Sometimes I like to use a weighted STA to get more weight further up my back
4) It seems (at least on mine) that if you want to change to an AL or SS backplate, or dive with different tanks, it's gonna be easier with an STA since it's a pain to thread/unthread the straps with the built-in STA (on my wing).
