Maybe it's because if you're not careful setting it up, the BP can get on the tank cockeyed? I've been using the Pioneer built-in STA for a couple years now with no problems, myself.

1) I think with a regular STA, you can spread the tank straps out better to help position the tank
2) with the STA I have, I think the tank will have a more stable connection to the BP
3) Sometimes I like to use a weighted STA to get more weight further up my back
4) It seems (at least on mine) that if you want to change to an AL or SS backplate, or dive with different tanks, it's gonna be easier with an STA since it's a pain to thread/unthread the straps with the built-in STA (on my wing).

just my opinion

i also have the 27 lbs wing , i think it,s a great wing for single tank dives , you can;t notice it on your back when diving, thanks Halycon.

I agree that the cam bands work fine without the sta. Just make sure you tighten and place the bands properly. It does take about 10 seconds more to put a tank on without the sta. Your first few dives may lead to user error until you learn to deal with the cam bands. However, I plan on adding a weighted STA because I like the idea of the extra weight on my back for cold water diving. That said, anyone have any ideas where I can get a good quality, well priced weighted sta? Thanks and good luck!
