No it's not the sharks and other various beasties that roam around underwater that bother me. At the moment the height of what is laughingly called summer here in Scotland, shore dive sites are plagued by by the dreaded midge. Little buggers are only about 2 mm long but come in the thousands and have teeth designed to get through cattle skin. Us poor old thin skinned humans don't stand a chance. Getting kitted up and de - kitted ( is there such a word?) is bloody murder as you get eaten alive.

Anyone else in other parts of the world suffer from getting seriously chewed on when getting ready to go in and after coming out?

Yeah, sounds a lot like the mosquitos or black flies or horse flies we have around here.

Plenty of blood suckers to go around in Michigan.

Don't smoke myself. Might take it up to lessen the pain and save some blood from the little buggers. Either that or you can come for a dive with us and i will kit up next to you as you puff away mate. :)

you guys diving up loch long / loch fyne way? did conger alley.. awesome! massive conger came out of it's hole and swam around us.. not too bad viz too!!

Here in RI, we get lots of mosquitos right as sunset....from about half hour prior to about an hour after the sun goes down they can be merciless.
When we go out night diving we gear up as much as possible at the dive shop to minimize the assault. By the time we finish the dive it is reasonably safe, only a few buzzing about as opposed to the blood sucking horde during he predive.

Yup up at Loch Long and Fyne often. Thought i sent responded to a post about conger on a thread you might have been on. Not sure was a while back. But some guy basically said that conger was pretty poor. I posted othewise. Have saw the biggest of my congers there as well. It was HUGE. On a night dive at the time, made it even better. had a hisge shoal of Pollock in the water at the time as well, have saw dogfish, huge lobsters anf all sorts there. Is one of my favourite sites. In fact we will be heading to loch Fyne on Friday during the day if all goes to plan. Got another great site at St Cats we dive at regularly.

You ever dive the tables at st cat's.. we did a few dives there a month back, great drop off about 100m out from the shore with big boulders, spider crabs, congers etc. nice!

Never dived it personnally, my buddy Alex will have though. Sounds like a nice dive.

Evil gnats appear here on the days where air temp is above 16c and its humid.

They totally ignore some people but LOVE me to the point of swarming.

I cant sit outside im my garden any warm evening at all as i get attacked instantly and come out in huge lumps.

Yet another reason i want to move abroad....
