I guess you missed my point. I did not say that people dont dive the eastern side of the island. The post asked about possible shore diving and I gave my opinion and experience/knowledge. I have to disagree about comparing the coast of the Yucatan to the windward side of Cozumel. Comparing the coast to an island that is 30 miles off shore is not apples to apples. Sorry gunn. I will leave it at that and we can agree to disagree. Have a great trip to Coz. Wish I was going sooner.

I am not sure we really disagree, except that I don't see why conditions on the east coast of Cozumel would be all that different from those on the east coast of the Yucatan. I've been on boats in both locations, and sea conditions were similar, i.e., the shielding effects of the island are not that evident across the channel, especially as you go south from PdC. I've seen the sounding charts, and the depth profiles are similar. Is there something else that I am failing to consider?

I've been to the "wild side" of Cozumel many times, and I totally agree that I wouldn't want to shore dive over there under normal conditions.
