Great photos! I especially like the tiny file fish - what a camouflage... Can you tell us the name of the Komodo boat - just want to make sure I'm not on that one when I'm doing my next Komodo trip... :-(

Obviously you were quite lucky with the Komodo dragons - I had only two very old ones lying close to the kitchen... ;-)

Thanks gabyne! I have been meaning to write a quick trip report but in the interest of getting some information on the liveaboard out there sooner, rather than later, I will give you some of my impressions now.

The boat we were on is called the Tidak Apapa and the Captain is Chris Sperduto. You can find more information on the web at http://www.tidakapapa.com.

Apart from the drive shaft breaking, the boat and crew were great. The facilities are nice with the option of sleeping under the deck or on the deck (protected by a tarp) but with ample pillows and mattresses to sleep on. The food is simple but very good. Chris makes real nice pancackes and Supandi's Indonesian dishes are very tasty. The boat has all you need to charge your gear when you need it.

As for the Captain - Chris he is quite a character and likes challenging dives. Komodo, as you know, is known for ripper currents. So, since Chris is new to Komodo and is still learning about the dive sites, I would suggest that you consider his outfit only if you are an experienced diver.

Out of the water, Chris is quite talkative and tends to use colorful (and sometimes not very politically correct) language and unless you are easily offended, you will be continuously entertained by his seemingly never-ending antics.

I hope that helps you with your future Komodo trip planning.
