That is one super video....I'm definitely going to incorporate ideas from that in my future classes. For my DM and Instructor trainees, they will be required to watch it

Thanks to Pipedope and DandyDon for the video reference. Had my first dive as a cert OW diver today, having a pretty annoying ear problem, the video helped for future.
Right now, my left ear is muffled and hurts. I got some relief from sudafed and ibuprofin, but still can't hear well. I assume I should probably see a doc tomorrow if it isn't better.
Got a jellyfish sting today too. But the dive was awesome!! I will not be deterred!!!!
Wouldn't know what to do without Scuba Board, thanks everyone.

I tried the video link but it didn't work. Does anyone know an alternate link?

UWTV:
The Diver's Ear: Under Pressure
Scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming and flying can be fun ways to explore the depths and heights of the world - especially if you can clear your ears as pressure changes. In this presentation you will learn techniques for preventing middle ear barotraumas and steps to equalize pressure in your ears, and safe ways to prevent "ear squeeze."

The following links are to the actual videos (if they don't work by just clicking on them, save them to your desktop and double-click them there):

Modem/ISDN (56kbps)
Cable/DSL (256kbps+)

(Their web server seems to have a glitch right now, but it'll probably be fixed soon, but I've checked that the video links themselves still work, and I pulled them and the above quoted text from an old archived copy of the page.)

I ruptured both of my eardrums in a cave dive. Wouldn't recommend it. Just as bad as the injury was the surgery ( while awake ) to repair my eardrums.

This girl is now extra careful with her ears.

Read the article on preventing middle ear barotrauma too. Dr Kay provides wonderful information.

ClayJar,
Thanks for the links, they work perfectly

I want to thank Don for keeping this resource fresh.

I still go back and watch the video even though I can't dive anymore.

I suggest that anyone who dives watch the video once a year or more and especially before diving after a break.

Thy this...
