Got this from Pipedope This is really an excellent, hour long video on the most common problem as well as injury in scuba - equalizing....

From the University of Washington...
The Diver's Ear: Under Pressure
Scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming and flying can be fun ways to explore the depths and heights of the world - especially if you can clear your ears as pressure changes. In this presentation you will learn techniques for preventing middle ear barotraumas and steps to equalize pressure in your ears, and safe ways to prevent "ear squeeze."

Speaker: Edmond Kay, M.D., clinical assistant professor, Family Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine; diving medical officer, Dive Safety Program, University of Washington

I would second that. I learned a few techniques from the video that my classes didn't touch on. One of them has become my standard technique.

Warning: The video shows in vivid color how ugly most of your ears look on the inside-- weird bumps from exposure to cold water. eeew!

I will have to check it out DandyDon. I'm a newbie and willing to take in all the knowledge scuba vets can give.

I've never had problems clearing so didn't watch it myself for a long time. It was interesting to hear about this problem and how it ties to Vertigo, too.

I haven't had issues with equalizing my ears personally. But that was fascinating information. Thank you for posting it. I love stuff like this! :D

That was very educational. I'm trying to learn everything I can(from reliable sources) before my class, that starts in June.

I've known about Dr. Kay and his website for some time, but this is the first time I've watched the video. It's excellent -- Even I learned some things, and I'm supposed to KNOW all this stuff! The pictures of the eardrum are particularly useful for us docs, especially those who don't see barotrauma very often (I work in the desert).
