We bagged our trips on Friday & Saturday. South winds anywhere above fifteen knots makes for lousy dive conditions here. The captain of the Key Largo Princess glass bottom boat went out Saturday morning and reported ZERO viz at Molasses Reef. A few dive boats ventured out and reported a whopping ten feet of visibility!

Sunday morning, we headed out to Snapper Ledge and Pickles Reef... both were totally washed out. At Molasses, we found 30-40' of viz, and made two dives there. In the afternoon we returned to Molasses. Visibility had improved to 40-50'. Both trips featured Reef Shark and Spotted Eagle Ray sightings!

MikeJacobs:
Good to know! How about currents? Are they related to anything in particular? Predictable, say on the Grove or Duane?
Current should be expected and prepared for on both wrecks. Moderate current, running from the southwest toward the northeast (the direction of the Gulf Stream) is the norm. That's generally "bow-to-stern" on the Duane. On the Spiegel Grove, the current usually hits the eighty-plus foot wide decks at an angle, spilling up and over the port rails, and along the decks, in a somewhat "stern-to-bow" direction. Rare indeed are the days with zero current, but occassionally, we are blessed. Prepare for the worst, and pray for the best!
