So nature has provided us with the extermination of an estimated 10,000 people, a mere drop in the bucket. Now our over populated world will scrabble to provide aid to those still alive to keep them alive. A perfect time to let nature take it's course. Easy to talk about over population, tougher to actually act on the talk.

And the Great Lakes are dead or on fire. Oh wait! The diving there is better than ever.

This (and other examples provided) is a wonderful example of the point of this thread.

The Great Lakes were pretty much dead, and Lake Erie did literally catch on fire. It's better now, but it did not happen because people were wrong in their original estimate or because nature took its course. A massive campaign was undertaken to fix the problem. Laws were passed to stop the dumping of pollutants, etc. They were very effective.

The same thing has happened with huge smog problems in various cities, including especially London, where the famous killer fogs of the past no longer occur after the implementation of tight pollution control laws.

See what can happen if people realize there is a serious problem and do something about it?

It's an effort to ease the suffering of the living. Tough talk indeed!

All this over population crap is just that, talk. If the world was so grossly over populated we wouldn't be able to offer relief to the living.

... give it another generation or two and we won't be able to ... of course, since you and I will be gone by then, who cares ...

Exactly. Buy airplane ticket. Look down. What overpopulation? (Don't do this over Hong Kong.) Like famine, it is really a distribution problem.

Ok if over population is no an issue how about all the farmers in the world stop using pesticides, fertilizers ect to grow the massive amounts of food needed to keep the population we have going. Stop cutting down forests to keep up with faring land to support population growth and see how long before everyone is going to go hungry. The land simply cannot naturally keep up with the consumption we as a people we have. no we are not every populated. No we are not ruining the oceans with all the use of fertilizers. No lets keep doing what we are right now and shoving our fingers in our ears and shouting la la la, while wearing a blindfold.

Pesticides and fertilizers have created the longest living, healthiest human populations in history.

Forests are a renewable cash crop like corn or beans.

Right. Travel in Canada north of the 55th parallel (even the 53rd). I know, it's harsh land and weather, but people have survived there for eons.
