genxweb, I did not realize there were several quarries in PA. Are any closer to NE OH than Dutch?

Depending on how you go, I would say that Bainbridge is probably closer. It is similiar in depth to Gilboa and has a decent amount of things to see. It is about 3 hours from Pittsburgh on the Turnpike. It is also a great place to go for non-dive stuff too, as it is located in PA Dutch Country so Amish Town USA. If you have an S.O. that doesn't dive but likes to go with you, then you can go out, treat her to a nice B&B (I can recommend a few) and she can sight see while you dive. There are also a lot of outlets out there too so gotta watch the wallet in case your S.O. is a major shopper. There are also plenty of wineries there.

As for other quarries in the area, most of them are small (35ft max depth) and are usually mud-holes used for training. I believe there are some more out towards eastern PA, but this middle area doesn't seem to have too many that are accessible.:shakehead:

I would also second BainBridge. There is a few attractions to see there and the viz is holding strong right now though there seems to be a bloom forming. At Bainbridge you can hit over 120 feet in depth and there is alot of cool attractins rarely visited from the 90 to 100 + foot range. Temp right now is holding in the 40 to 41 degrees at depth and with a noticable thermal cline at 50 and 15 feet. I would aslo suggest guppy gulch located in delta pa it is only 14 dollars and viz is always awsome there max depth is about 80 to 85 feet with some nice attractions.

I think pir8 actually lives there on the weekends, but that's an unconfirmed report.

If the only other quarries you've been diving at are Gilboa, Portage, White Start, etc, you're in for a big change topside. Lots of staff, lots of parking, lots of food... lots of walking, too- but that was my buddy's and my fault!

But a quarry by any other name... is still a quarry- lol!
