You've been warned...

What is it with DIR and Koolaid?! I've seen the two mentioned in the same sentence plenty of times in the past.

Why, and what is the history behind it?

DIR divers are viewed by some as cult followers, on a par with Jim Jones's folks who suicided by drinking KoolAid. We, of course, do not view ourselves that way :)

You are not kidding, are you?!

That is funny.

That's rich, coming from The Borg Queen herself

C'mon everybody, Drink the Tang!

Everyone else is doing it.

You don't want to be *gasp* DIFFERENT, do you!?

That was true at one time because of the attitude of many folks who claimed to be DIR. They had no understanding of the reasons for the gear configurations. It's been a few years since I've associated KoolAid with DIR divers. When I see discussions about DIR today, the divers are well informed about why they do things. In the late 90s through the early part of this decade, it was vastly different. Today, I would more closely associate KoolAid with the way the world learns to dive, not DIR.
