I've seen drysuits in use in Truk, 85° water.
that would be me if I ever make it there with my rebreather
 
Was cruising through my DUI owner's manual and happened to catch one of their "Warning" statements that declared water temps 40°f and below are ice diving and require that special training.
Ya I learned a long time ago that North American dive culture tends to be rather California-centric, where 50° water is almost unbearable cold. In these parts (Tobermory), 50° and we're busting out the 3mm shorties...

I would have thought it would be more Florida-centric!
 
Same here and diving wet. Ocean was 43F yesterday but I've seen it in the upper 30s some winters.

So every winter in the north Atlantic I'm ice diving, interesting.
