I've been lurkin now and then. Been over on TDS and JWScuba for the most part.

*BTW, I noticed that you slapped the hornets nest on TDS last night.:D

Are you going out this weekend? It's looking good so far for me (fingers crossed) as long as nothing goes to s#!t in the next two days (knocking on wood).

*Yea I think I made my point.....gee!! The admst. locked down the post this a.m.----I quess the 'truth hurts'---sorta whimpy. I would like to go diving this weekend...just not sure were,,,,someplace other than CSSP though. Take care.

I'll be there on saturday - looking forward to it!

Here's a repost of mine from another thread on the subject:

Here's the list of stuff to bring from the "official" piece of paper I got with my ticket:

1) Mask, snorkel, open heel fins, regs, octo, guages, tank, weights, bcd, cold water hood and gloves. We have over 70 drysuits available so we should have plenty for all. We have larger fins in case yours do not fit the drysuit boots. We also have DUI hoods, bcs systems, and weight and trim systems for demo.

2) While you're welcome to bring undergarments of your own, we will have polartech powerstretch thinsulate ultra, and Actionwear garments to dest dive as well as booties to wear on your feet under the drysuit.

3) Bring your Certification-Card and credit card for deposit. (I'm not sure what the CC card is for...incase you blow a hole in a suit or something?)

4) Bring your favorite snacks, drinks, etc.

5) Cameras - we'll be happy to take pics of you and your friends.

- all divers who complete demo will recieve a hat and be entered into a raffle

20 Minute seminars include:

- Proper Weighting
- Why Women Get Colder (or Why Women Are Cold - couldn't remember the right title..;-))
- When to use Dry Gloves / Argon
- Insulation Strategies

Hope that helps.. looking forward to meeting some of you...

OH, and it is the 11-13th of Nov.

D.

I'll be there Saturday, I got to see what the big deals is about drysuits.
They seem kinda weird to me. Go diving while staying warm and dry, what's the fun in that?
Also planning on doing a couple of "wet" dives after the tryout, anybody wants to come along is welcome...........................
:classic:

I've never met any of you guys, but I'll be out there Sunday! How to recognize me... I'll be the brown guy with the OMS harness and white Faber 95 tank! Maybe that should help.

I'm in California this weekend otherwise I'd be there. I went last year and really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend anyone on the fence to make an effort to go, especially if you've never drysuite dove before. It's a great way to get the experience for a minimal price.

Sooooo... any reports from the DUI Dog Days crowd? Please?

I was there on sat. only. Dove a TLS-350 twice(i liked the 350). Had a burger provided by DUI for lunch. Staff was very helpful. I like the zip seals on thier suits alot. You can change seals yourself with out sending the suit off. I really liked CSSP. they did keep us on the shallow end though. afterwards went to Scuba Toys and dropped a little cash(i love that store). Now I am jonesing for a 350.
It was a long day for me and i was tired when i got home, left Round Rock at 4:30a.m. and got back at 9:00 that night.

I was there on Sunday, tried out a CLX450 and a TLS350 and liked the TLS more. It was pretty fun and I was glad I went because I found that I fit a stock size perfectly. Got a cool coupon too, but unfortunately it only works if I buy from the shops who supported the rally. I would rather buy my suit from my LDS in Austin...! I think a 350 might be in my near future. :14:

Sooooo... any reports from the DUI Dog Days crowd? Please?

Here's my report:

Saturday got sized for a TLS/350 suit 100% trilam (with zipseals), with a Thinsulate 200 undergarment. Water temp at CSSP was about 69 at surface, maybe 60 or so under the thermal layer at 20 feet.

Naturally I had the bright idea to do my first drysuit experience in doubles. Bouyancy was not exactly my friend on the first dive. Suit was a squeezing machine! I didn't really enjoy it too much. I think I'm going to invent "dive cups" just for the guys for use when diving a dry suit.

I can already see the commercial..

"In diving, any squeeze is a bad squeeze - especially 'personal' ones. Introducing Dive Cups, from Daylonious...when you just don't want that 'special' squeeze in a drysuit"

Anyhow, I think I went too warm on the undergarment, I friggen boiled. I was also underweighted after we got to the dive platform, so a nice surface swim and back to get 6 measly pounds was really putting my SAC into overdrive. On the second dive I finally got neutral, and had a fairly pleasant dive for about 30 min - only the squeezing thing was still an issue.

The only other major problem I had had nothing to do with the drysuit. Since I'm not certified in drysuit we had to go out with an instructor. The most charitable way I could describe the one we were assigned to for the first set of dives is "overly cautious". In 10 minutes we had MAYBE gone 15 feet. For every 6-8 kicks, he moved maybe 3 feet. After another 8 minutes of him having a deathwatch stare at his compass, we surfaced because he was convinced we should have reached the plane at CSSP. We had traveled approximately 10 yards. Whatever the reasons were, it was frustrating. Okay, but enough on that rant.

Sunday, I went with the DUI FLX 50/50 - also used the dry gloves. I was a little skeptical of the drygloves ability to be 'precise' while doing things like clipping / unclipping lights and guages, but surprisingly they offered a great tactile response. For an undergarment, went with the Polartec Powerstretch - it's kinda like a big cozy set of pajamas rather than the sweat machine ski suit that the Thinsulate was.

I was in the water for about 3-4 hours today and was absolutely fine - never once did I get too hot or too cold. It might have been my experience from the day before, but this suit was more comfortable to dive, had less squeeze and generally was just great overall. Bouyancy was much much better, and I had much easier time controlling my ascent rate having to worry about the suit and my double wing. Also, I had the pleasure of going with a another instructor that actually KICKED and we got to move around quite a bit at different depths. This allowed me to really play with the valves in the suit, and get a good feel for it's bouyancy. MUCH MUCH happier experience.

If my TLS experience had been my only dive, I wouldn't be at all interested in a drysuit, NOW I'm actually considering buying the 50/50. Really changed my perspective.

Also, I have to send kudos out to Faith at DUI for putting together the whole weekend at CSSP. She's the hardest workin' woman in the business! The crew and the food out there were wonderful, and I really enjoyed my Drysuit demo from DUI. I think Santa may have to take up scuba diving this Christmas.

Wow. Those are GREAT reports! Thanks guys.

It's hard to find good unbiased feedback like that.

I couldn't go because of school work, but those followups gave me some really good information.
