The only reason for me to even consider taking a DS course is the potential hassle of flashing a card to rent a suit..
That said my first few dives with a DS was with an instructor and other experienced DS divers and it could be considered a form of "unformal" course I guess.

As far as dive shops goes, how anal are they on that piece of plastic anyways if you have a logbook full of DS dives they can browse?
