I think the waterproof would be to thick IM sure a 7 mm will be plenty thick for my water temps high 40s to low 50s

You have to factor for neoprene compression.

Your 7mm hood is about 3.5mm at 33 ft of seawater!

Remember too, you lose most of your heat through your head and spine...warm head + warm torso = warm diver!

I like the Waterproof 5/10mm hoods.

I use an Otter Bay 5/12mm hood (5mm face seal + 12mm helmet portion). I like the fit on the Waterproof hoods a bit more...my otter bay does have a tendency to collect air and "egghead" me a bit.
 
take a soldering iron and punch a hole or three in the top back of your hood, about where peoples cowlicks normally are, usually helps. The nice thing with the hoods over wetsuits though is the water flow is pretty limited.

The 7mm is more like 5mm at 33ft, they don't have a linear compression.
