i use a normal weight belt, but then again it only has 2kgs on it.
 
with my drysuit I split the weight up. I put 8lbs in my integrated pockets that attach to my backplate harness and then i add 10 lbs to a normal weight belt. its easier to exit the water this way, i can hand my weight bet up first then climb out with the rest

Mako rubber belt with two shaped 10 lb weights on it, and two weight pockets on the cambands, with 2 to 4 pounds per pocket, depending on undergarments. My husband uses a weight harness and prefers it -- if you are having problems with it under your backplate, could you move the weight pockets up or down a little?
