Latex is latex and silicon is silicon. To me silicon is far superior.

Standard vs heavy duty is a latex thing, and I found the much thicker HD seals to be uncomfortable.
 
Thanks for the helpful advice. I'm going to go with latex seals for now, as I'm already paying enough for the open water course as it is, and I still need to get a mask.

There's another shop here that does SDI courses, and I was told that they don't charge their students for seals. Not sure how much their suits are to rent though.
