Hello,
I am looking for some advice on a dry glove system. I have a DUI drysuit with zip seals and I am looking to add a better system that either presses down and locks or twists and locks. One I can actually take off and leave off until ready.
I would mostly be using these in northern Atlantic waters from low 40F’s into the high to mid 30F’s.
I have been looking at SI-Tech, Kubi and Ultima but I am not sure which is the right decision.
SI-Tech has three different options: Quick Lock, Glove Lock QCP and Antares. While the plastic is better than metal for keeping you warm, the SI-Tech outer ring looked massive in the store. Just really bulky. I’m not lobstering, just taking video so not a huge deal.
Kubi everyone is saying is the #1 however they are made of metal which many have been saying is not good for keeping you warm and could actually make you colder. Although the outer ring is slimmer.
Both of these systems I would be able to leave my current zip seals in and just install the system around them.
Ultima is the only one that has the push down to lock system a buddy has told me to look for. He says the twist on systems leak a little more (could be user error, idk). Ultima is slimmer as well. The only issue is I would need to completely remove my zip seals and install the Ultima system which I am 95% positive will lead to some kind of leak somewhere if I tried this. I am also not even use if when I install the Ultima cuff if I can use my zip seal to fold around the ring and thread it into the second grove before putting it back in the suit. The zip seal function would not be needed but could I still use that seal to fold over into the Ultima cuff?
Just looking for your best advice on Dry Glove systems for real cold water diving.
