WHY ARE THEY CALLED "DOUBLES?"

They are twin singles. A set of singles... anything but DOUBLES!
Wouldn't a set of doubles be 4 tanks?
:eyebrow:
:)

Diver0001:
Most people have this illusion that they can simply strap on a set of doubles and immediately be safer, R..

Did you take a poll on this? Or are you ASSuming it is true?

When you ask for a double at the bar, do they give you four shots?

It's an assumption based on years of listening to people talk about their motivations.

But ok, I could be wrong. feel free to start a poll about it. The outcome may be interesting.

Maybe try these options on the poll:

1) I need it for extra gas
2) I want it for redundancy/safety
3) I want to look cool
4) I want people to take me seriously

And anything else you can think of. These will probably suffice to cover 80%.

If you want to start a betting pool I'd bet 75% will answer #2

Let me turn off the TV set and grab a pair of glasses so we can discuss this ..........

I would ask for A double. Not a set of doubles. Not doubleS But a double shot.

So, I ask you. What is a "set" of doubles?

you'e ask for a "set of doubles" he'd toss you out! :)

Or you'd get lots to drink.

One of the things I've been taught is to do a flow check every 5 mins.
This seems a bit excessive. I was told to check at the beginning of the dive (within the first 5 minutes) and after anytime you bump into something. Valves don't turn themselves off so checking them every five minutes is overkill.

Well, I don't view doubles as being inherantly safer, so #2 is out. I don't need it for extra gas, so #1 is out. I don't care if people take me seriously or not, so #4 is out.

Must be #3 -- look cool.
