Yes, with doubles they still may add air in BC the difference is these guys use the DS as their primary bouyancy device.
I find that amazing for tech divers ... the difference in buoyancy between empty and full on a pair of 104's, which is a pretty standard rig for tech diving, is about 15 lbs. You'd have to be that much overweighted at the beginning of the dive to make sure you can hold a stop at the end of the dive ... and compensate accordingly. That's a heck of a big air bubble to be carrying around inside a drysuit.

I don't know of any technical training agency that would advocate such a thing ...

The neck seal would never hold the gas anyways.

Well, to be fair, ditching the manifold, and the bands does shed a bit of weight over back mounted tanks. I gotta try this sidemount thing one day.
 
But, thats not DIR!

Mind you, it is a barrel full of monkeys level fun to go into a tinny hole on a wreck and play dead when the OW divers go passed.
