Well, the wing don't ventilate it self. It needs help from you, and that takes up your left hand. I can't see how it should be very easy to unclip the LP from the inflator with just one hand, the right hand.

This is how we teach OW students and it can be done fairly easily, even with cold hands as long as you get a supple coupling. It's well worth your time to give this little detail some attention. I've seen divers using inflators that need to be uncoupled with a lot of force and it doesn't seem wise to me.....

To be perfectly honest, I haven't timed the difference myself but in my case I think I can unclip the inflator faster than I can shut down the tank, even with cold hands. My hands are never numb, though, because I wear drygloves but I do dive in freezing water so I appreciate the point you're making. I had a dive last week with a flooded glove and by the end of the dive I was in a lot of pain and losing coordination in the muscles. In that situation it might have been easier to shut down the tank.... :)

I have the bigger coupling on my dry suit hose. It's a different connection than the one on the inflator and they don't match. One could easily rebuild it to connect, but the bigger ones are to wide to go on the inflator anyway, and they unclip rather too easy. I feel more like getting the slim coupling on my drysuit instead, so I don't have to stock two different types of LP hoses in my travel box.

Sounds like you have one of those big Apeks inflators. It's nice to have the same size on the wing and on the drysuit. In a pinch you can even swap them out.....

With OW-students I am sure you don't use doubles or two separate 1. stages! :D

Here you see the two different LP-hoses. The bulky Apeks for my drysuit to the right.
-So.... When are you going to try diving in Norway?

Diver0001:
Is that an invitation?

What is there to see?

R..

Quite a lot, actually! :D (Which is a total understatement...)

If you're a wreck ferret seek up NARVIK. Awsome WW2 wrecks from the battles up there. I haven't been there myself, yet. But I'm going! Just need to get some more deep diving practice first.
But since winter is the best time to go, expect cold fingers! -Which is the connection that makes this post into a non-OT post... (Yeah, sure!)

As you are a trained dry suit diver you have nothing to worry about.

KOMPRESSOR:
It makes sense to have the wing connected to the right post since the dump valve is on the left side. I don't dive caves, but I can't see a good reason for this not applying in a cave as well. If you hit the roof with your rig you WILL check your valves no matter what, won't you?
Well, I recall someone saying they were able to check their valves while scootering, when means left hand to right valve, which is about the same thing.

The dump valve may be on the left side, so is the inflator, which you can operate with your right hand, dumping this also puts you in a slight heads-up position, good for venting your drysuit. If I had to do an emergency shutdown, I'd rather it be on the post I'm not currently breathing off. I try to check my valves regularly, but no one's perfect and for me, I'd rather hedge my bets towards what I may actually face.

For someone who is self-admittedly inexperienced in doubles with zero cave experience, you certainly seem to be an expert in both.

Well, I never take the words of experts for granted to be "the only thruth"! :D
-Trying to figure this one out, and I'm not going to choose a solution because "DIR" says so... And if I don't challenge your point of vue, how should I then get to know WHY you think it should be so?!

Remember, I'm not an inexperienced diver. I'm just new* to doubles. (*New means some 20+ dives with them)

Something peculiar to add here. I dive RG2500s. This weekend, while diving, my backup reg hose came floating OVER my head in front of my mask. After taking stock of the situation, I re-routed the backup hose BEHIND the SPG. This peculiarity only affects first stages with swivel turrets.

lostplanetairman:
What hose routing do people use for Dive Rite RG2500 regs? Any pix?:
