About the benefit of using a mask for a respiratory virus?

About how this virus behaves, how it spreads, exactly how it infects people, and how to best mitigate those risks. That is all new science since this is a new virus. You can extrapolate from what we know about other viruses, but every single virus is different.

Early on, it was the medical workers that were in the prime jeopardy category. There weren't that many people infected, but those that were sick ALL went to the medical workers. As the virus progressed, both the jeopardy categories and the available of PPE changed....more and more people got infected, so the person-to-person contact levels were higher, and because there were no effective Federal mandates (remember the famous "You are on your own" statememt?).

Yes, if we'd had unlimited PPE at the outset, a combination of distancing and masks might have been the right answer...especially if there had been strong Federal guidance instead of certain principal administration figures dancing about in fairyland.

EDITED: I was asked by The Chairman to remove reference to specific administration figures.

The fact remains that they lied. they said we couldn't manage masks, that the improper use was worse than not using them. They made overt efforts to deceive the American people. How quickly we forget.

I don't disagree that (from a public health standpoint) that prioritization of resources was beneficial to the population as a whole, but I knew their talking points were BS when they delivered them, it is just surprises me that people still don't realize the deceptive communication they provided. hmmmm, must just be new science...LOL

new science... new truth... whatever. i can't help but feel like we, as a nation, are failing some kind of basic test of humanity. frankly, we need to do better. I just hope there is time before a lot more people die because of the selfishness of a few. that and more of my dive trips get cancelled.

The situation changed over time as the cases exploded, hospitals began to fill and the death count rose. Therefore mitigation measures needed to change. I have no clue how that equates to deception and lies. But hey, let's spend our time attacking those that are trying to get this thing under control so that we damage their credibility and drive a ridiculous percentage of the population to not follow the guidance being provided. Sounds like a great plan.

We use to bleed people (blood letting) for many diseases in the past. Are doctors lying about antibiotics now?

Frivolous and specious argument about “lying”. Problem is engaging with people who make these outlandish claims.

Even if we grant all that you say is true (which I am not), what is your point? You want people to ignore current public health measures because ...?

Dismissing an organization's findings based solely on its previous actions rather than current evidence is an excellent example of rationalization over reason.

Man this tedious. Masks were super important, they remain important and they will continue to be important. The point is that people were being fed utter BS and we should not be so surprised when the consequence of this is that they lose trust in the entity delivering the information.

The failure of people to understand and accept science is dangerous to our democracy. If they used common sense, they would have IMMEDIATELY recognized that individual's using masks was a good idea. I acquired a few boxes of N-95 in February - when I saw the writing on the wall.

This is pretty funny. The scientists and medical experts were giving the best advice they could at the time, consistent with their knowledge of Covid-19 during the early phases of the pandemic. However, unlike many politicians, the scientists, medical experts, and health care specialists adapted to changing information about the virus, and consequently altered the guidance as to how best we can reduce the spread of this dangerous disease. If you want to talk about lying, some of our top politicians lied from the start, are still lying, about the nature, virulent spread, and what is needed to reduce the scourge of Covid-19. It is those lies and behaviors that have put us in deep ****, and are going to keep us there to the detriment of our people, country and the rest of the world.

However, personally I think it should be criminalized. Not wearing a mask in public that is. Maybe a $10k if you are caught and don't test positive. Manslaughter at the least if you are caught and do.
Ludicrous..
